How To Convince Your Partner To Wear SPF (and Actually Stick to It)!

Ashleigh Post

Hi there, we’re so glad you’re here! We’ve noticed a common (and rather puzzling) phenomenon in the beauty world: many men seem to have a mysterious aversion to SPF. It’s not the most natural pairing (yet) but we’re on a mission to change that, helping to turn daily SPF into a habit they’ll actually embrace.

Below you will find our tips and tricks on how to make SPF apart of your partner's (or significant other's) daily routine.

1. Understand the Why: It’s More Than Skin Deep.

First and foremost, make it clear that SPF isn’t just about preventing sunburn – it’s their best defence against premature aging (think wrinkles, pigmentation, sagging) and a powerful way to reduce the risk of skin cancer. If he wants to look as good as you will at 60, the time to start is now.

UV damage is cumulative, building up over years – even on cloudy days or when you’re indoors. That’s why daily broad-spectrum SPF isn’t optional. It’s the ultimate no-excuses skincare step.. doctor’s orders.

2. Choose a Formula He Actually Wants to Use.

One of the biggest turn-offs for many is the texture – words like “sticky” and “greasy” often come to mind. But that doesn’t have to be the case.

At Youth Lab Direct, we stock sunscreens such as La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF 50+, Aspect Sun Hydrating Face SPF 50+ and Ultraceuticals UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 50+ – all ultra-light, non-greasy, and fast-absorbing. Perfect for anyone who dislikes the feel of traditional SPF, these formulas act and feel just like a moisturiser while delivering high-level protection.

3. Sneak It into His Habits.

Another great hack is to subtly suggest applying SPF after shaving or washing his face. A simple step to fall into his routine. Additionally, it is always a great idea to keep sunscreen in his vicinity whether that be his car, gym bag or bathroom bench - a visible bottle acts as a gentle reminder.

4. Show, Don’t Tell: Try it Together.

Make sunscreen application a part of your morning routine together. “Here, try this - it’s light and doesn’t feel oily on your skin.” Let him test a small swipe on his arm or neck first.

5. Share the Evidence (Casually).

He doesn’t need scientific papers but casually dropping facts has proven to help:

  •  “Even darker skin gets hyperpigmentation and skin cancer risk”,
  • “SPF in moisturiser or makeup isn’t enough unless you apply thick layers”,
  • “Higher SPF doesn’t mean you can skip reapplying every 2–4 hours.”

6. Reward Progress, Not Perfection.

Sometimes a small compliment goes a long way.

  • “Your skin’s looking great today - must be that SPF.”

Sunscreen picks that have the tick of approval:

La Roche‑Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF 50+

This SPF is ultra-light, suitable for sensitive skin and won’t clog pores.

Aspect Sun Hydrating Face SPF 50+

With a beautiful hydrating texture it is perfect as a one-step skincare routine.

Ultraceuticals UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 50+

This SPF is one of our favourites at Youth Lab. It combines moisturiser + SPF in one and ideal for people who hate layering products.

Getting your partner to start applying SPF isn’t about forcing a lecture - it’s about making the right product + routine + mindset work for him. Choose a skin‑friendly formula, integrate it into something he already does, make it convenient, keep the tone fun, and reward consistency over perfection - the last thing he wants is to feel like its a chore.
Pretty soon, you’ll both be SPF in sync - no questions asked. His skin (and yours!) will thank you later.
